Troop 1 was started in 1956 with over 50 scouts and 8 patrols. The Troop is hosted by St. Michael's Episcopal Church on Washington Avenue in Savannah, Georgia. Although Troop 1 was inactive for a number of years, it started again with 3 scouts and 2 leaders in 1999. Today, the Troop has over 20 scouts and 4 leaders.

The Troop meets every Tuesday night from 6:30 until 8:00. Campouts are schedule every month throughout the year, and the Troop participates in summer camp.

Since the Troop started with 3 scouts crossing over from Cubs, the oldest boys are only 15. The highest rank is Life, but there is lots of determination to reach Eagle by many of the boys.

SUMMER CAMP: In 2002, the scouts traveled to Camp Rainey Mountain located in the mountains of North Georgia. They earned merit badges for climbing and repelling, astronomy, small boat sailing, rifle, swimming, and many more. Three scouts earned BSA Life Saving.

PHILMONT: In 2003, nine scouts and three leaders will travel to New Mexico. There, they will spend the better part of ten days at the "high adventure" scout ranch. They will have to prepare their own food, purify their own water, carry everything from tents to socks, and most importantly, keep the bears out of their camp sites.
